It has been a long time since an update! Sorry! Let's first start off by saying Chase is doing Great! He still is currently going to Cleveland for his treatments and will continue to do so until Christmas. Chase has had a wonderful month of July, he has done very well and is feeling wonderful. Tonight Chase is staying with his Grandma "MiMi" (JANE.) Chase met Owen's Boss, tonight Linda. (Thanks for the Smarties)Chase will be trying to go to some upcoming Sprint Car Races soon. I would like to say thank you to everyone that has made Chase's Day!Thanks for the wonderful e-mails, and the continued support! God Bless!

Great 4th of July

Hello all,
Not a whole lot to update on. Chase is doing great.
He continues to get his chemo weekly. We all enjoyed a
very nice 4th of July at Aunt Jeanette's. Owen is on
vacation in Memphis, visiting Kole Keller and the
Keller family.
Owen reports that Kole is doing great!
The fundraiser/car wash was a huge success! We would
like to thank everyone who brought their car to be
washed. A special thanks to Discount Drugmart of Clyde
for giving us the water, and a place to do the car
wash.

Hello Everyone,
Again, I apologize for not updating as often as we
used to. Chase is doing well. His recent 3 month scans
have all come back negative! Thank Goodness. He will
still continue chemo treatments until January.
Chase has recently returned from a trip to The
Michigan International Speedway. He met alot of Nascar
Drivers, Including Chase's fav Jeff Gordon, and my
favorite Driver, #48 Jimmie Johnson, plus many other
Drivers.Look for photos of Chase and all of the Nascar
Drivers. Chase also went to the Michigan Nascar Race on
Sunday, June 17th with his Dad Jeremy. They both had a
blast.Jessica said she didn't know who enjoyed meeting the
Drivers on Saturday the most, Chase or Jeremy!

I would like to share with you all, an update on all
of the cancer cases here in Clyde. As some of you
know, the kid's cancers in this town are absolutely
alarming.We have had (5) new cases just this year alone.
I wanted to get the townspeople of Clyde together to
talk about this very important issue. I also called
the Sandusky County Health Dept. to ask them if they
would like to come and speak at the meeting.I was told
no, they would not be attending because they haven't
anything to report. The meeting was scheduled for Wed.
June 28th at 7pm at The Clyde High School Auditorium.
I just wanted The Sandusky Co. Health Dept to shed
some light as to what the next step was, and what is
being planned in the future, to find out why, all of
these youngsters are coming down with various forms of
Cancer. The Health Dept. told me they didn't think it
would be adviseable to hold this meeting, as it would
do nothing but cause panic to the folks in Clyde.
(Like it hasen't caused panic already)
I also did put numerous calls in to Robert Indian,
Ohio state Epidemiologist. I was called back from his
Administrative Assistant and told it was very possible
he would speak at our meeting. But nobody called me
back to confirm his attendence.
I also received a phone call from one of the parents
, who's child has cancer, This person told me that
they to, agreed that this may not be a good idea. When
I mentioned to them that it was possible that Mr.
Indian would be attending, This persons exact words
were " If Robert Indian is coming, then we will come
to the meeting, but if he is not, we won't be there."
I thought about all of this negativity, not only from
The Sandusky County Health Department, but from the
parent who called me, who's child also has cancer. So,
I discussed it with Rusty, (My fiancee), and my
Daughter Jessica, (Chase's Mom) and decided to cancel
the meeting at this time. Although, I really think we
should have held it.
Imagine how I felt when my Daughter mentioned that
she had received a letter from the Sandusky County
Health Department. Here is a copy of that letter.

Now, after reading this letter, I was upset by this,
because, (A) They have decided to hold a meeting on
the exact day that our's was to be held, (B)I would
have never cancelled this meeting, had it not been for
the negative comments made by The Sandusky County
Health Department. Also, The Health Dept makes it out
to look look as though, because I cancelled our town
meeting, they thought they had better hold one! But
why is this not open to the public? Why does this
letter state the they don't want the media involved?
In my honest opinion, I think something smells really
fishy here. And this letter is a big part of the
fishing pole.
You be the judge. Read it and email me your comments.
I am very interested in knowing how the public feels
about this issue.

Doing Much Better. . .

Hello all,
Chase is doing much better since he was life-flighted
to Cleveland Clinic over Memorial Day weekend.
Have not had a chance to post as of late, because of
a death in the family. Rusty's Mother (Dot Fritz)
passed away on Saturday, her funeral was Wednesday.
Dot was such a special lady, she will be missed so
much by her family and friends. Dot always called to
check in about Chase and ask about him. Chase has
known Grandma Dot all of his life and she was very
special to him.
Chase has just returned from the Cleveland Clinic
last night, he had to stay overnight and get the big
doses of chemo. The nurses and Doctors monitor him,
and make sure he is is eating and drinking fluids
before they will send him home. He did get sick a few
times, but this is usually standard (if you can call
it that.) It is so hard to see someone you love go
through all of this. Chase's Uncle David stayed in
Cleveland with him, they visited the learning center
on Chase's floor, and watched movies. Chase is still
on ant-biotics from the high fever he had over
Memorial Day week-end. He had a very bad bacterial
infection in his "port", he is doing much better with
that now.

A bit of sad news. . . .

Hello all,
Mimi here, Chase's Maternal Grandmother. Wow, so much
to share with you about the weekend, don't even know
where to begin.
Saturday night around 10pm, I was entertaining
friends in my backyard, when I received a call from my
daughter Jess, (short for Jessica) that Chase had a
high temperature and she was taking him to Bellevue
Hospital and would be picking me up along the way.
I climbed in the front seat and we took off speeding
through Clyde! We were met there by Chase's Mawmaw,
Robin Dwight. Chase was so hot, from such a high
fever, that you could hardly touch him! His temp was
almost 104 degrees! I climbed in the back seat and
held him all the way to the hospital. He was burning
up with such a high fever. They immediately started iv
fluids to hydrate him. Chase was hallucinating and
shaking violently with chills and fever. We were all
so worried and scared for him. Aunt Jeanette,
Mawmaw,myself, his Mother, and Chase's Dad Jeremy were
all there. At first, they were going to run him to
Cleveland Clinic via ambulance, until his symptoms
worsened, and it was agreed that he should be Life
Flighted by helicopter. During this time he was
hallucinating, shaking violently with chills. Nurses
and EMT's, and Aunt Jeanette worked on chase by
sponging him down with cool water to get his fever
down. His fever went up and down, and up and down.
During this time His Mother Jessica had an anxiety
attack and had to be placed in a wheel-chair, where
she totally flipped out and was hyper-ventilating.
Jessica was so upset about Chase, I ran from Chase's
room back to Jessica. As a Mother, I was torn from
being with my Grandson, but yet I needed to be with my
Daughter too. I ran back and forth between both of
them. It was one of the most heartbreaking times of
my entire life! To look at my Grandson who was turning
an ash grey and not responding to any kind of stimuli,
to my Daughter who was crying out and gasping for her
breath because she was so shaken up about her son, was
the most scariest time of my life.
I apologize for being so graphic, but this is exactly
how it was!
Chase was life-flighted by helicopter to the
Cleveland Clinic. His Mom, Dad, myself and Grandpa
Rusty made it there by car as fast as we could get
there. We were met there by Mawmaw Robin, and Randy
Burrough's. His Father Chad, Uncle Matt, and Grandpa
Scott Berger showed up a few minutes later. We all
took turns going into Chase's room to make sure he was
all-right. His color returned to normal, and all of
his vital signs were good. Chase was doing good so his
Father Chad decided to stay with him for the night,
and we all went home.
Chase spiked a temp and was hallucinating again on
Sunday night, not as severe as the night before, but
it was bad enough to scare the crap out of all of us.
At this time Doctors were still unsure what is causung
this. They have since decided that his port-a-cath is
infected with bacteria and he will undergoing surgery
to have it removed for a few days, he will also have a
spinal tap done just to rule out Spinal Meningitis.
So much for my little guy to have to endure.
Chase didn't ask for this dreaded disease, he didn't
ask for the 36 radiation treatments, to his eye, he
didn't ask for the surgery,to remove his tumor, he
didn't ask to be so sick that all he does is hug the
toilet vomiting violently, he didn't ask to wear
sun-glasses because the light causes him to hide his
eyes and he needs to wear sun-glasses even while he is
indoors if the light are too bright. Chase didn't ask
for any of this. He is only five years old! He is so
pale and thin, he has no hair because of the chemo.
The chemo makes him sick, but yet he needs to have it
or he could die. He is poked and prodded on a weekly ,
if not a daily basis. And through it all, he is still
a five year old, who just wants to be a kid, ride his
four-wheeler and play.
I ask anyone who reads this, to just take a moment
and pray for Chase, pray that he beats this dreaded
disease, pray that he can live a normal life, pray
that his family can know what it is like to be able to
stay home, and do the things that you and I take for
granted. It has been said that God never gives us more
than we can handle, This family has certainly has
handled their share.

So much has taken place!

Hello all,
We apologize for the delay in posting.
So much has taken place since the last time we have
posted.
A Benefit for Chase was held in Norwalk this past
Sunday, and over $1600.00 was raised! Thank you to all
who helped with this event. Chase had so much fun.
Chase will be attending the Sprint Car races this
weekend in Attica and Fremont Ohio. We will have "Race
For Chase" T-shirts available to all who want to
purchase one.
Chase will also be in Michigan on June 16th with Mom
and Dad to watch the Nascar drivers qualify and attend
a special luncheon. It is very possible that he will
meet some of the drivers!
Chase and his Mom and Dad will be going to Bristol
TN. to the Nascar Race at the end of Aug to meet Jeff
Gordon for his special wish, with the Make-A-Wish
foundation! He is pumped!
Chase and his Mom have been traveling to Cleveland
for his appts and receiving his chemo treatments.
Every Monday morning the Nurses need to access his
"port" by inserting a needle into his chest wich is
connected to tubing so that he can receive his chemo.
Chase is not handling this well at all. The Nurses
told us that kids gradually get used to this procedure
as time goes on, but Chase gets so upset, crying and
kicking and screaming. He begs and pleads for them not
to do this. It is absolutely heartbreaking to watch
him go through this. It scares him so much. I went up
yesterday with my friend Linda to give Jessica a
break, and the nurse who was trying to do this
procedure literally ran out of the room in tears
because of how upset and shaken up Chase was by all of
this. They also had me leave the room, as I could not
bear to watch him plead and beg me to make them stop
hurting him. As a Grandparent you want to protect your
Grandkids from anyone hurting them, but yet I know he
needs this medicine... you are so torn about what to
do. The stress all of this has caused Chase and
Jessica, and the whole family is too much to bear at
times. I have watched this killer disease turn a
beautiful little boy with such a zest for life, into a
sometimes withdrawn, scared, under-weight, sickly
little guy who needs sun-glasses even at night if the
lights are too bright, who hugs you one minute, then
screams at you the next.
I received a call in the middle of the night last
Wednesday from Cleveland from my Nephew, John Adams,
he went up there to stay with Chase and Jessica
because they were all going to attend an Indians
baseball game the next day. In the middle of the night
Jessica woke up thinking she was having a heart
attack, she couldn't catch her breath and was gasping
for air, so John called the EMS and they came and took
Jessica to the hospital Emergency room. The Doctors
said she is having panic attacks due to all of the
stress she is under. She has had them more frequently
in the last week. It is not easy being a young Mother
and having a child with Cancer, for that matter it
isn't easy having a child who is sick, no matter what
your age is. Jessica and Chase deal with this, day
after day. I know I couldn't handle everything that
has been put upon her shoulders, she is definately
Chase's rock, and he is hers.
It is sometimes so easy for us to sit back and say
this or that about how if it was us, we would do it
this way, or try this, or you should have done that.
But I just want to say how proud I am to know Jessica,
and be her Mom. She is there for Chase and with Chase
most of the time, except for the few times Linda and I
can give her a break, so that she can stay home once
in awhile. I ask that you please keep Chase and his
family in your prayers, they need all of the love and
support they can get right now.

Busy Couple of Weeks . . .

It has been a very busy couple of weeks. Chase and his
Mom have been traveling to Cleveland and staying at
the Ronald McDonald House thru the week, while Chase
has his chemo treatments every day. Then it's back
home on the week-ends.
Chase attended the Sprint Car races this past
Saturday night, and had a ball! He hung out with all
of his favorite drivers and even rode around in the
Pace Car! Check out these (2) racing websites for some

My name is jessica I'm Chase's mom, I just want to thank everyone for all of your support.It really helps when I not only have friends and
family support but the communities help to. I just cant express how greatful I am. I never thought that being a 23 yr old mom of 2 would be going through
this it's so hard but I know I have to be strong for Chase and my family. But if it wasn't for all of you for your letters, cards and comments.
I probably would have broke down by now. I am in Cleveland as we speak we have been here for 2 weeks and then a week off and
then 2 weeks again. it's so confusing. We can't wait till this is all over.
But I just want to give a big thanks to my mom for everything she has done for me she has been there from day one and not only is she my mom
but shes my best friend. Thanks mom. also Linda Woodruff (mom # 2)you have been a great friend to my mom and to our family. Also anyone else who has taken time out of there busy schedule to help us in any way. And last but not least my husband, as you all know Jeremy is not Chase's biological father, but Jeremy has been there since Chase was 9 months old and has been his daddy ever since.Jeremy is a great father to Chase and a wonderful husband to me. He works all of the time and with me being here our family is spit in half I miss Jewelyonna and Chase misses his dad. Hopefully this will be all over soon and we can go back to being a happy healthy family. Thank You to everyone for all that you have done!

Long Couple of Weeks! / Sprint Car Races

Chase is doing well. He and his Mom returned from
Cleveland this evening. He will be spending the next 2
weeks there, at Cleveland Clinic. He
and his Mom will
be staying at the Ronald McDonald house. Chase
continues to have alot of tearing in his right eye,
and his eye is very sensitive to light. This is caused
from the radiation treatments. He wears his sunglasses
most of the day. Aunt Jeanette visited Chase and
Jessica on Wednesday and spent the night with them.
Chase, his Mom and Dad, as well as Mimi and Rusty will
be going to Fremont to watch the Sprint car races on
Saturday. Chase and his Mom will also be attending the
fundraiser at the UMC, 510 W. Maple St. Clyde OH.,
across from Millers, on Saturday, in his honor along
with Tyler Smith and Kole Keller. The fundraiser is
being hosted by the A.C.T.S. class. They are having a
Big Yellow Box Party from 1-3pm at the church. This
event is a way of supporting these kids with craft
projects during their long hospital stays.
C'mon out and support these kids, enjoy some
refreshments and participate in making crafts.
There will be a Benefit/Fundraiser for Chase on
Sunday May 21st in Norwalk OH. Auction- Bands and
raffles. More information coming soon.

Doing Well . . . .

Wow! Everyone has been busy! We are so sorry about not
updating very often. It has just been great to have
Chase home more often, now that he is finished with
the radiation treatments. Things are getting back to a
semi-normal state. Chase will be attending
kindergarten sign up next week. Before we know it, it
will be time for school again. Chase and I (Mimi) went
to Cleveland last tues. for his overnight stay @
Cleveland Clinic. Received Chemo, and had to stay
overnight. We thought we were coming home on Wed., but
because Chase didn't feel like eating or drinking
fluids, we had to stay an extra night. But, he did
feel better the next day and we came home.
I will try to update as often as I can. Please be patient.
In case you haven't heard, Chase's 3 month scans came
back all clear! Isn't that wonderful? He will still
continue to have chemo for the next 6 months, it was
explained to me that even though the scans came back
clear, it is still not 100 % accurate. The tests
cannot pick up single cancer cells. But we are praying
that it is gone! Chase is doing great, he is riding
around on his 4-wheeler,playing with his brother and
sisters, and is just enjoying being a kid. When Chase
and I went to Cleveland Clinic for his appt, he
actually gained a pound! We are gearing up for this
years sprint car season. We are looking foreward to
taking chase to the races this year.

Having Fun

Sorry that we have not updated as of late, but we
have had major computer problems that are currently
getting resolved.
Chase is doing great. He and Mom are traveling to
Cleveland on a weekly basis for his chemo treatments.

Please pray that all of his tests that he will
undergo on Tues, come back all negative. Tuesday will
be a very long day for Chase.
Chase accompanied Rusty and Mimi to the Tiffin Mall
on Saturday. Chase ran from one sprint car to another,
checking them out with Rusty.
Brandon Martin, 410 sprint car driver, hung out with
Chase and also asked Chase where he would like his
name placed on Brandon"s sprint car this season.
Chase played on sprint car simulator that was set up
to race at the Eldora Speedway, Chase took 1st place!
He also talked with D.C. Bash, and all the guys from
Attica Raceway Park.
We had pizza, sold alot of "Race for Chase" T-shirts
and was sooo excited to be around all of the sprint
cars! He was so wore out , that on the way home he
fell fast asleep!
Come on out to Attica, next Friday for opening Night! Chase is going to try to be there!

Chase is doing great!

Hello Everyone,
We apologize for the delay in posting on Chase's
website. There has been a few problems with the blogspot
server over the last week or so. Chase has been home
enjoying being backaround his friends and family again.
We will be traveling back to Cleveland in the morning
for Chase's chemo treatment. Chase is also back on his
Neupogen shots again. He needs to have an injection
every day for 10 days straight. this will help keep
his counts up and help him to feel better. The big
doses of chemo that he had last week are starting to
show now, Chase isn't feeling very well and missed
going to Church.
For those of you who don't know, Chase had his last
radiation treatment a week ago. On March 28th, he will
go thru extensive testing again to see if the
radiation and chemo has killed this ugly disease
called cancer. We are all praying for this to happen.
On Saturday the 18th, Chase and his family went to
Tyler Smith's Benefit at the Clyde Fire Station. We
had a great time visiting with friends. Chase wanted
to climb into the Fireman's Boots and Uniforms. Mimi
had a hard time trying to convince Chase that he
couldn't do that.
The Black and Yellow "Race For Chase" T-shirts are
in. And they are Sharp! If you would like to purchase

We are hoping to go to the Tiffin Mall next weekend
for the Sprint Car Show. Chase will be with us there.
We hope to be able to set up a table to sell The "Race

come out and see Attica's 2006 Race Fan of The Year
(Chase Berger)!
The love and support for Chase from all of the local
Sprint Car Drivers has been such a blessing! We can't
thank all of you enough for everything you have done
to make this little boy laugh and smile!
A HUGE Thank You to all of you for your continued
prayers and well wishes, cards, and donations. Chase's
family appreciates each and every one of you!

Sorry that we have not posted in awhile.
Chase is doing well. He and his Mom are back in
Cleveland. Chase received his last radiation treatment
yesterday! Hooray! The Radiation Dept. gave Chase a
Big package. It was full of John Deere Tractors!
After his last radiation treatment, Chase was
admitted to M-33 to start his chemo. If everything
goes well, he may come home today.
Chase had a great week-end playing at home on his
4-wheeler and tractors. The weather was good for him
to be outside.
Thank you to all who have kept Chase and his family
on your prayer lists. You are all his prayer warriors!

An Average Day!

Hello Everyone,
Chase and his Mom are back in Cleveland again this
week for his radiation and chemotherapy. Chase has (5)
more days of radiation. Next Monday should be his last
day.
Next week, Chase will be getting the big doses of
chemo and will be admitted to the Hospital for a few
days.
Chase is doing well, aside from the
additional/physical side effects from the chemo and
radiation that have already begun to emerge... weight
loss, vomiting, diareah, loss of appetite, loss of
hair...
Please pray for elevated strength and courage for
Chase and his family through these difficult days.
Thank you again for all of your love, support,
prayers and donations that has continued unceasingly
throughout these last few months. We have made many
new friends, and re-discovered some of our old
friends. Some, we do not know, but we thank you all so
much for everything you have done.
We hope to have more pictures of Chase's Benefit up
real soon, so please check back often for updates.
Chase and his Mom will be attending the Cavs game
tomorrow night in Cleveland. He is so pumped about
going!

Hello Everyone,
We haven't posted lately,due to Blog Admin. was
sick. Chase has gained (1) lb, Jessica, Chase, Jewelyonna
and Amanda visited Tower City mall in Cleveland OH.
Chase threw change in the water fountain, and received
a t-shirt from the hard rock cafe. He received some
new toys from Rite-aid today. Chase has been a little
cranky the past few days. Chase's friend Sarah's last
day of radiation is tomorrow, he is really sad that he
won't be seeing her very much now. He wanted to buy
her something special to give her tomorrow, so he and
Jessica picked out something really nice for her.
Chase and family will be traveling back home tomorrow
to stay the weekend at home.
Please say a special prayer for Dave and Donna Hisey
and family. Their little girl (Tyler) was recently
diagnosed with cancer, and they all need our prayers
and support thru this trying time. Dave helped us so
much with the Food at Chase's Benefit, and he has
allowed us to sell t-shirts and take donations at
Millers anytime I wanted to go up there. Dave's wife
Donna is also one of my sister Mary Kay Consultants.
I thank all of you who have helped us with Donations
well wishes and prayers for Chase, Lets do it again
for the Hisey family, they too are going thru alot
right now with their little girl, and they need all of
the support we can give.

Benefit was a HUGE SUCCESS!

First off I would like to thank all of you. A big thank you also goes out to all the people who worked at the Benefit. The Benefit was a huge success! There were many people there and it was awesome! Chase had a TON OF FUN! This benefit was the best benefit that I have ever attended. We had items auctioned off items and had live entertainment which were all great! Chase is the honorary fan of the year for Attica Raceway Park. He loves sprint cars and was very excited to be the "fan of the year!" Chase also loves his new book bag and shirts that he recived from Attica Raceway! Also Chase was adopted into the Clyde Fire Dept. Which included receiving a neat Clyde Fireman's Patch and a Certificate. Chase had to complete a task to be a new fireman. Chase had to ride around town in the 102 foot ladder truck. He had fun playing in it and blowing the horn. So thank you Mr. Mike Andrews and the Clyde Fire Dept. I would like to say I am trying to get to all the thank you's, they will be posted on the thank you page. Which will take a few days to complete all the thank you's. Chase left this morning to go back to the Ronald McDonald House in Cleveland and for his treatments. MIMI(Jane) and Uncle David are staying up in Cleveland with Chase for the night. Chase had fun tonight being a kid, playing with Uncle Dave, and painting pictures. He will return home on Friday. But for know he is at the Ronald McDonald house playing with all the neat items he recived from everyone at the benefit.

Benefit . . . . . . .

Hello everyone,
We are sorry we haven't posted much in the last few days, but we have been very busy getting ready for Chase's Benefit. Chase returned home from Cleveland on Friday.He and his Mom will be going back late Sunday night.We would like to thank all of you who have helped with donations, kind words of encouragement and prayers. Chases Benefit will be tomorrow. It will be held at the Clyde Eagles Hall. It will start at 12:30. The Spaghetti dinner will be held from 1-4. There are many local bands that will be performing and there will be raffles, door prizes, and an auction of donated items to help with the medical expenses for Chase and his family. It is going to be a ton of fun so if you get a chance please stop out and support Chase. Chase is going to try to be there tomorrow.(It all depends on how he feels.)The dinner only costs $5! Carry Out Dinners are availible. Having some fun!

Chase had an awsome day and overnight last night. He came home from Cleveland and stayed at Grandma's (MIMI) house. Chase had a blast drawing and making "art." Chase had to go to bed fairly early and then woke up early to go to Cleveland for his treatments. Chase had a great day and the treatments went very well. Then Chase, MIMI, Rusty went to the Cleveland Fire Station. He was very excited. Chase go to see trucks and talk with the fireman. Chase then went back tonight to the Ronald McDonald house to stay with his mom for the overnight and go to his treatments tomorrow. Chase is having fun toinght playing with his "race track" that Chase and his mom are putting together to race each other. All and all it was a AWESOME day! Thank you to Chase's "Chemo Angel"--Victoria for the lovely gifts and all of your support. And to all of you thank you for your thoughts, prayer, and support! God Bless!

Sorry, not much new to report on Chase. He and his Mother are
back in Cleveland starting week (5)of chemo and #11
radiation treatment.

(It's hard to understand God's mysterious ways in our
lives, but it all seems to bring us back to Faith in
Him)

Chase is home for the weekend and is doing very well. He was very sick this week. He hopes all of you had a wonderful Valentine's Day. Chase will go back to Cleveland tomorrow late at night and start his treatments again on Monday.

The Trip. . . (Chase not feeling so well)

Hello everyone,
This is Chase's Mimi. We just returned home from
being with Chase in Cleveland. We, (meaning my friend
Linda Woodruff and I). When we arrived on Tues.
morning, Chase was not feeling well. I went ahead and
sent his Mother home, so that she could spend some
time with her baby and Husband.
I will let you all know how much I admire Jessica for
her strength and courage during all of this. She
spends the entire week with Chase at the Ronald
McDonald house, leaving at 7:15 am every morning to
make it to his radiation appointment mon-friday. They
take the shuttle over to the Cleveland Clinic, then
Chase needs to be prepped for radiation. This is not
an easy task, because they have to put him under
anesthesia every time, every morning for his
treatment. 9 times out of 10, he is very scared and
apprehensive about "going to sleep". Then after his
treatment, he needs to wake up. Sometimes he is in a
great mood, alot of times he is in a "not so good
mood". Then he needs to go to another part of the
hospital for his chemo treatment. The chemo treatment
isn't every day, but sometimes it is.
Sometimes it may be as late as 3 or 4pm before they
can return to (home) Ronald McDonald house. Then it is
usually spent keeping him calm and helping to hold his
head, while he is throwing up. I apologize for being
graphic about this, but this is what our whole family
is dealing with, especially Chase.
Yesterday was spent with Chase, while Linda and I
took turns helping him, holding his head (while he was
throwing up) and trying to take his mind off of being
sick. When he wasn't throwing up, he was dealing with
diarreah. These are typical side effects from the
chemo. But, I will tell you, it breaks my heart to see
someone I love as much as I do Chase, to be sick like
this. My heart goes out to any child, Mom and Dad,
family member, or care-giver who has to deal with
this.
Linda and I, decided to take him to the ER, because
it was getting bad, and Chase really was sick. After
tests were ran, it was decided that he was dehydrated.
They put an IV in him with fluids, and within about a
1/2 hour he really was feeling much better. But it
scared me so bad and Linda too. I really don't know
how Jessica does this up there, week after week by
herself.
Chase had a much better day today. He and Linda
played outside, he helped me in the laundry room
(doing laundry), and we watched movies. I think he and
Linda watched Fat Albert 10 times! He and Linda put a
puzzle together, and then Chase and I walked down to
the pharmacy to pick up some of his meds.
When Jessica came back this evening, you would have
thought Linda and I never existed. He sure is his
Mommy's special guy! The bond that a Mother has with
her child, is one of absolute amazement.
I look around at the families staying at the Ronald
McDonald House, some of them have been there a long
time. They are from all over the world. Every one of
those Mom's and Dads are so special. They take nothing
for granted, and every accomplishment from their
children, are celebrated with such triumph!
Please say a prayer for Chase and his family, along
with all of the other families who are dealing with
their children's illness's.
I would also like to thank everyone who has helped
with cards, letters, donations, and well wishes. If
you haven't seen your name on the Thank you page,
please be patient. I will get to them as soon as I
can.

Hello Everyone, Chase was feeling very very sick today, and things in Clevelend did not go as well as it should have. Please keep Chase in your prayers. He is not eating very well and not feeling well with his stomach. Chase says Happy Valentine's Day to all of you. He does not feel well, but he said that. I hope that everyone enjoyed there Valentine's day. Mimi(Grandma Jane)went to Clevelend and is staying with Chase for a few days. A more detailed post will be posted tomorrow. Chase went to Church this morning and had a good time. But recently Chase has been sick and not feeling well. He went home and hung around the house watching Nascar. He loves nascar and # 24 Jeff Gordon. He is excited that Nascar is back this season. He has went back to Cleveland this evening around 9 pm. Hello everyone not much to report on Chase today. He a good day as he played and laughed and making every on smile. He mainly just hung around the house. He also had a wonderful night last night as he stayed at his grandma Mimi's (Jane's) house. He has been feeling ill to his stomach lately so please remember him in prayer. Chase is home for the weekend!

Chase came home today for the weekend.
He is staying overnight with Mimi and Rusty.
Chase loves his new Official Jeff Gordon racing coat
and hat. Rusty and Mimi picked it up for him
yesterday.
Chase was not feeling well at Mimi's, was sick to his
stomach, and was sick a few times. This is typical
side effects of the chemo he gets.
This last week Chase had Amanda, and baby sis,
Jewelyonna staying with him at the Ronald McDonald
house, and Mawmaw and Bumpa Randy stayed with him on
Wednesday.
Chase played with Mimi's dogs, Cody and Kendall, and
played with his cars and trucks.
Mimi will be at Miller's Grocery store again on
Saturday taking donations. Don't forget to purchase
your spaghetti dinner tickets for the
Benefit/fundraiser on Feb. 26th.

A better day!

Chase had an ok day today and yesterday. He was sick on Tuesday and could not have treatment done. Chase will be coming home on Friday. Grandama Robin and Randy was there and stayed all night on Wed. Night. Chase has been on a roller coaster effect the last couple of days, but seems to be better today. Chase is excited about coming home tom. Sick Day...!

Hello Everyone,
Chase had a not so well day today. He was very ill this morning and was so ill he did not have radiation as scheduled. He still had his chemotherapy treatment and was pumped full of fluids because the doctors said he was very dehydrated. Later on as the day went on Chase was feeling better and better. He is feeling much better and will go in tomorrow as scheduled for his treatments. Chase says “Hello” to everyone back home and says he will be back soon!

Just a Monday.

Super Bowl XL

Hello everyone, There is not much to report on Chase today. Chase had a up and down day. He was feeling great one minute and then sick the next. He stayed at home and watched the Super Bowl with his family and had a good day. He will be leaving very early Monday morning to go to Cleveland for his treatments this week. He should come home on Friday. Please keep Chase in your prayers, and I know in my heart with God's help Chase will get better!

Snow!

Chase had a fairly good day today. He played with his
baby sis, had a visit from Grandma Sheri, and then
spent some time with Mawmaw Robin and Grandpa Randy.
Chase also went out in the snow with his Dad and rode
the big 4 wheeler!
Mimi Jane, and friend Linda Woodruff set up a table
today at Millers grocery store in Clyde, and sold
raffle tickets for a huge Mary Kay basket filled to
the rim with over $200 in retail products from Mary
Kay. They also sold Pioneer Mill Dinner tickets and
Spaghetti dinner tickets for the Chase Berger Benefit
and fundraiser on the 26th of this month.
Mimi Jane will be at Miller's grocery store again on
Wednesday, Feb 8th, with the $200 Mary Kay gift
basket, and all of the tickets, to help raise money
for the family. Stop in and say hi, and get a flier
with all of the information about chase.
We would like to thank Dave Hisey and Miller's
grocery store for allowing us to use their store. And
a big thank you to all who donated, and purchased
tickets, and just stopped by to ask how Chase is
doing. Our family appreciates how our community has
really pulled together for our precious little guy,
Chase and the Ferkel family.
Chase and his Mom, Jessica will be traveling back to
the Cleveland Clinic very early on Monday morning for
Chase to start another week of chemo and radiation.
They will be staying at the Ronald McDonald House near
the hospital. The Ronald McDonald House will be their
new home for the next (5) weeks, as Chase needs to be
at the hospital for his radiation every day except
weekends. He will also be getting chemo too.
The Ronald McDonald House is a very nice place. They
have alot for the kids and parents to do there. Also,
there is usually volunteers that come in and cook for
all of the families that stay there. At least (1) meal
per day if not more. They have washers and dryers for
the families to do there laundry, and also televisions
all through out the house for families to watch tv and
videos. There is also a Media room, for those who want
to be on the internet. The price per day there is $20.
That is very reasonable when you consider what you
receive there. But it can get quite expensive when you
know you will be living there for the next 5 weeks.
Even though the kids wont be there on the weekends,
they still pay for saturday's and sunday's so they
won't lose their room. There are families staying
there from all over.All with very sick children.
Sometimes there is a waiting list, so you want to make
sure you keep your room. They are almost always full
to capacity.
The Ronald McDonald house excepts donations. They are
always in need of pre-paid phone cards, laundry soap,
travel sized toothpaste, toilet paper, paper towels,
toothbrushes, bleach, fabric softener,dish soap,
cleaning supplies and so much more. But most
important, please pray for all of the families and
children staying there, so many of them are very far
from home, and most of the children have life
threatening illness's.

First radiation treatment.

Wow,
What a day it has been for Chase. He went for his
first radiation treatment this morning. He woke up
from the anethesia, very upset, and confused. After he
napped he was back to his regular self.
He and I walked all over the hospital today. We also
went down to the parents lounge and played board
games. He spoke with his Grandma Florida, his Mawmaw,
and his Dad, Chad, on the phone today.Chase also has
been receiving chemo every day this week, too. He and
his Mom will be coming home for the weekend tomorrow,
after his treatments. Aunt Jeanette is staying with
them tonight, and bringing them home tomorrow.
We received a huge package from Chad and Tracy
Kemenah on Tuesday. All kinds of goodies to auction
off for the Benefit on the 26th! Thank you so much
Chad and Tracy! Chase also received a package from
them as well, he will see it when he comes home tomorrow.

A little under the weather :( . . .

Chase had a pretty quiet day. He didn't feel very
well.
His Mawmaw and Grandma Florida came to the hospital to
see Chase today and visited with him for quite awhile.
Grandma Florida brought Chase all kinds of treasures
like: a Harley wallet, Harley sweatshirt, a cuddly
bear, and a really cool Jeff Gordon leggo's that can
be made into his car, #24. She even brought Chase's
sis, Jewelyonna her first care Bear. Thank you so much
Grandma Florida!
Chase and his Mawmaw painted the window in his
hospital room today, and Mawmaw got him to eat a
little.
Chase's Mommy and Mimi along with Chase played with
his playdough, making funny faces, and then his Mom
painted him a picture on his window of a big John
Deere tractor!
There has been quite alot of confusion as to when
Chase will start his Radiation. It will be in the
morning, first thing. He is also receiving chemo this
week as well. Next week he will be ,to start radiaton
as an out patient, and more chemo. Chase and his Mom
will be staying at the Ronald McDonald House for the
next 5 weeks, Home on the weekends. I am trying to respond to
everyone's emails, that should be done soon. Thank You to all who have wrote
email or sent a card!

A little better. . .

Hello Everyone,
Chase had a better day today as he was not feeling well yesterday. He was playing today and had a visit from Rev. Dee, and Rusty. Mimi(Jane) is also up in Cleveland where she will be staying for a few days. Chase has not started radiation, he will start radiation soon! Due to some technical issues there will be no picture above this message today, I am trying to fix what is wrong. Hopefully tomorrow it will be all back up and running!

Far from home...

Hello Everyone,
Chase has made it to Cleveland where he is staying for the next 6 weeks off and on. He will come home for the weekends and hopefully will stay at the Ronald McDonald House in Cleveland. Chase had a ok day today he was not feeling very well last time I checked, but was getting better as the day went on. Chase has asked me to tell everyone that "HE loves you all." Chase will be home on most of the weekends taking a break from both Chemo and Radiation. Chase has had a lot of cards and gifts sent to him. Also there has been a lot of people praying for him. So to all of you, Thank You!!!!! I will post more updates as I receive them!

Cleveland

Hello Everyone, Chase is now in Cleveland where he will be staying for the next 6 weeks. He will be coming home for the weekends. It is going to be a long 6 weeks, but I know in my heart and with God's Greatness that all will be well! Chase had a good day as he went to church and then had a celebration for his birthday with Grandpa Hemmer, Rose,& Family. Uncle David was playing with Chase today and all went well. Chase will be staying at the Ronald McDonald House during his stay. This site is often updated daily and always updated when new information comes in. Having FUN!

Chase, Jeremy, and Rusty visited Byron Reed at his
Garage. Chase also played with byron's little boy Sam.
Byron Showed Chase the transporter.As you all know,
Byron Reed is #5 on the local sprint car circut. Chase
and all the guys had a great time hanging out with
Byron, today. Thank you Byron Reed for sharing with
Chase!
Chase spent the rest of the day home with his family.
Getting ready to leave for Cleveland Sunday
evening.Chase will be getting the big guns of Chemo,
and start radiatin on Tuesday. Please keep Chase and

Talk about FUN. . .

Chase had a really good day today. Rusty and I took
him to Ponderosa for Dinner, then we went to Walmart
to pick him up a boombox and a Montgomery Gentry CD
for his Birthday. Then we took him to The Race Place
in Fremont. David Harrison met us there, and gave
Chase a framed picture of David's sprint car and a
t-shirt!
We then went to look at the karts and take Chase's
picture in some of them. We did get some really
fantastic shots (I hope)I'll know for sure when the
pictures come back. I hope to post them on Chase's
photo page in the next couple of days. Chase also rode
around in David's Go-Kart, and he even let Chase drive
it all by himself! He really had a blast! Thank you so
much David, for making Chase's day!
Rusty, Jeremy, and Chase will be going to Byron
Reed's Racing Shop on Saturday afternoon to take a
look around and see his sprint car.
He is so excited about going!

Making Memories. . . . .

Chase had a pretty good day today,
he stopped by Mimi's house with Mom and Jewelyonna and
visited with Uncle Jimmy.
We also had a little Birthday celebration for Chase
at his house tonight. Mawmaw and Randy,Ashley and
Rusty Jr, Mimi and Rusty and Sheri were there for cake
and ice cream. Cousin Robby and Allison stopped later
with their kids, Aubry and Graham, to visit too.
Chase received cards from Sue and Doug Mackey and a
package from his classmates. His chemo angel Victoria,
sent him some really neat stuff to do art projects
with!
For those of you who haven't seen Chase in a while,
he is losing his hair due to the chemo, so Jeremy had
to use the clippers to take off the rest of the
mohawk. (darn it! It looked so cool) He did receive a
phone call from his Grandma Rose and Grandpa Chuck
Hemmer from Sandusky last night. He also spoke with
his Uncle David too.
They will be coming to visit on Sunday. That is one
thing Chase doesn't lack and that is Grandparents. I
wish my Mom was here, Chase misses Grandma Judy so
much, as we all do. She would love it when Chase sang
to her. She would just crack up when Chase would belt
out a song! I know Grandma Judy is watching over him,
Chase was her special little guy.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHASE!!!! (5 Yrs Old)

We headed to Cleveland this morning for Chase to be
fitted for his mask for radiation. They needed to put
him under anethesia to do this because he needed to
lay very still for this procedure. Chase didn't
tolerate this well. He was very agitated, and was mad
at everyone. He woke up in the recovery room very
upset. After he woke up for awhile, he seemed to feel
a little better. We dressed him and took him over to
S-20 for his chemo. He was such a great helper. He
helped Dan draw his own blood, (3) vials, helped with
the chemo injection, and he flushed his tube after the
chemo! Everyone was so proud of him. One of the nurses
in the radiation dept, heard that a little boy who was
turning 5 yrs old today, was coming in to be fitted
for a mask, she hand made a very beautiful John Deere
blanket for Chase in honor of his Birthday! After his
chemo was finished all of the staff presented Chase
with a Birthday cake, and we all joined in a chorus of
Happy Birthday, and they all brought him Tonka trucks,
match box cars, and a card!
He was sooo excited! He really had a rough day, but
he was grinning from ear to ear when we left. Chase
will be returning to Cleveland Clinic Monday morning
and will be staying the whole week. He will get the
big doses of chemo, and they will start radiation on
Tues, he will be getting radiation for 6 straight
weeks.
Thank you Aunt Marylou and Uncle Bob for the cute
Birthday card!
A big thank you to Wallace and Cindy, for the Jeff
Gordon water bottle and car!
We would also like to thank Mark Keegan for letting
Chase come out and tour his garage. Chase was really
excited to chat with Mark about Sprint cars, and
racing. Mark invited Chase to come back and visit him.
That really made his day.

Chase's Birthday on Tuesday! BIG 5 years old!

On Tuesday,(Chase's Birthday who will turn 5) we will be traveling to
Cleveland Clinic for Chase's Chemo. We will also tour
the Radiology department, and they will fit Chase with
a mask, for when he starts his radiation treatments
next week. On Sunday, the 29th, we will head back up
to Cleveland and will be staying at The Ronald
McDonald House and the hospital as Chase will be in
the hospital the week of the 30th. He will be getting
his chemo cocktail, along with the radiation that
week. Please pray that all goes well.
Mawmaw and Grandpa Randy took Chase to the Roadhouse
for dinner tonight, and let him have his Birthday
presents (1) day early. he received his carhart jacket
and pants, as well as some Harley Davidson apparel
from Roeder's Harley Davidson in Monroeville OH.
He was so excited! He also stopped by Mimi's house so
he
could give his best bud, and partner in crime
(Cody), Mimi's big German Shepherd, (See Chase and
Cody on photo page) a Big wet Happy Birthday kiss!
Cody and Chase were both born on the same day and will
both be 5 yrs old on the 24th.
A big thank you also goes out to The Old Fort Bank,
Clyde OH, for the Birthday present and card. He loves
it!
We would also like to thank all of Mimi's Mary Kay
girlfriends for the wonderful get well card. (He
thought the dog was cool!)
We would especially like to thank Helping Hands from
The Old Fort United Methodist Church for their very
generous donation.
Also (Angel) Victoria from Chemo Angels,for sending
the beautiful postcards of Mesa Arizona, and the
wonderful letter to Chase and his family. Victoria
will be sending Chase, card and letters of inspiration
through his treatments.
We would also like to thank Castle Music, Norwalk OH
for the really cool guitar for Chase. Chase will be
jamming with the guys from the band at his benefit on
February 26th, with his new guitar! You won't want to
miss it!

Chase the helper.

Chase had a good day today. He helped everyone pack
up leftover items from the Rummage sale. He called
Uncle Kevin over to give him his shot because he was a
little upset.
Chase received many items from Tim and Michelle
Holkenberg of Holkenberg Equipment. Including, 2 John
Deere hats, John Deere nightlite, John Deere
sweat-jacket and t-shirt, and a donation along with a
wonderful card. Thank you!
He played with his cousins, Aleesha and Amber.
We would also like to thank Mark Keegan for the
sweatshirt, signed postcard and sticker. Chase sure
loved that!
Thank you to Marylou and Joe for giving Chase a
guitar and microphone. He also received another guitar
from the Norwalk Music shop. Come see Chase play his
guitar at the Benefit.
A huuuuuuuuuge hug and thank you to Sylvia Wott, and
all of the ladies and guys who helped with the Rummage
sale for Chase and Kole Keller. The support from the
community and the amount of money raised will help
these families so much. Our family thanks you all so
very much for all of the help we have received.

John Deere Day!

Chase has had a wonderful day today. He was playing today doing what a normal kid does. He spent some time today with Mawmaw Robin, Uncle Matt, and Lindsey today. They went to a John Deere store in Findlay. Chase loves John Deere as many of you know. Uncle Matt took him and looked at tractors they took some pictures, which will be up here soon! Uncle Matt bought him a Hat, Shirt, Tractor, and even a feed mixer. -- Thanks Uncle Matt. Chase is getting excited as he turns 5 on Tuesday. An OK day!

Chase had another good day today, just being a kid.
Other than getting tired easily, he hasn't had any bad
side effects from the chemo treatments so far. I gave
him his neupogen shot tonight. He didn't tolerate it
very well. I was hoping that the shots were going to
be easier for him as time went on, but, not with me
anyway.
I made dinner for the kids tonight, Chase ate most of
his lasagna.He also helped Rusty put together a water fountain for
Jessica. He also played with Kendall (my Miniature
Pinscher). She is the little dog that is in the photo
with Chase on the photo page.

Sat. Sooo much stuff! Too numerous to mention! I would

Blue Mohawk, and a Great Day!

Not much to report,Chase had a good day. Just wanted to mention that The Maine Event Hair Salon in Fremont, OH and Tara Dillow,Hair stylist, did Chase's mohawk. Chase had a usual day at home. He played with his toys and watched videos on his new DVD player. A good day overall. Please check back tomorrow for more updates. CHASE GETS HIS MOHAWK!

Chase had a pretty good day today. We were in Cleveland this morning for Chase to get his second
round of Chemo. He tolerated it very well, even helped
the nurse flush his tube, and took off the bandage!
Mawmaw Robin took Chase, Jessica and I to Dave and
Buster's. Very cool restaurant, complete with every
video game you could possibly want. Chase had a blast!
Chase received his mohawk at 6pm tonight, the
hairdresser also dyed the strip blue! He looks like a
little blue smurf!
Chase was really excited when he received a Get Well
card in the mail from Nascar Driver Jeff Gordon! I
think Jeremy was just as excited as Chase! He is
really excited about the Benefit. He just wants to get
up on stage and play his guitar with Uncle Jimmy!
Chase's blood count and other tests were good today.
We spoke with the radiologist about starting his
radiation therapy on Jan. 30th.
He will need to spend 5 days in the hospital that
week, receiving his chemo and the radiation. That will
be his first week, of the 6 weeks he will spend in
Cleveland, at the Ronald McDonald House.
He will be receiving radiation therapy 5 days per week
for 6 weeks. (30) rounds. They will make a mask for
him to wear during radiation, so that it only hits the
orbit of his eye, where he needs it.
I also received an email from Chemo-angels. A
volunteer from this wonderful organization will be
sending cards and letters to Chase during his
treatment, just to keep his spirits up.
Thank you all for your prayers, well wishes and cards.

Fun!

Chase had a good day today. He helped his Uncle John
clean his car, He played with his brother and sister
Caden and Lauryn today.
He rode his John Deere 4 wheeler until the battery
went dead. And his Mom caught him playing in the dirt
when he knew he wasn't supposed to. Grandma Sherry
brought him home some beanie babies from Dawn Aona.
Mawmaw Robin called him,he also received a get well
card from friend Angel Moreno. Chase's Uncle Kevin
shaved his head today, in honor of Chase. Chase's Mom
made him pancakes and dippy eggs and he actually ate
all of it! Mimi's friend Arlene Garvin stopped by last
night and dropped off some coffee cans, and gave her a
100 minute phone card for Jessica and Jeremy to use
when they are in Cleveland. Chase's Mom Jessica, gave
Chase his shot today, and he was such a big guy, he
didn't cry! The shot Chase takes, is called Neupogen,
it is a very expensive drug. A months supply costs
$10,000.00!
Chase, His Mom, Mawmaw Robin, and his MImi Jane will
be traveling back to the Cleveland Clinic in the
morning for Chase's 2nd round of Chemo and a check-up.
They will be injecting the chemo thru his port that he
has in his chest. Please pray that everything goes
well, as this is the first time he will receive chemo
thru his port. We will update after his visit.

Wonderful Day!

Chase has had a wonderful weekend. Chase went to church this morning with his parents and they all prayed for Chase. His daily shot was given to him by his dad Jeremy. Aunt Jeanette bought a portable DVD player for Chase so he can watch movies on the way to and from Cleveland. Thanks Aunt Jeanette! Today also Jessica went around hanging up flyers in Bellevue for Chase's Benefit.(See Deatails on right hand side of this page)
Chase had a visit from his grandma Mimi (Jane) today as well. He was also riding his John Deer four wheeler with Grandma Ferkel today as she walked. So all and all Chase was just being a kid today. Chase is scheduled to get his Mohawk he wants on Tuesday at 6 p.m. as it will be blue and he will see Tara Dillow to have it done. Chase says he loves everyone. So today as you can see it has been a WONDERFUL day!!!!

----Saturday-----Jan 15th---------
Chase enjoyed another good day today. He played with
cousin Aleesha and Amanda, and his sis Jewelyonna. He
ran around with Jeremy today helping him post flyers
for the upcoming benefit.
(Mawmaw)Robin, and Randy made dinner for the Ferkel
family and visited for awhile. Chase really ate!
Jessica gave him his injection of Neupogen today, this
was her first time doing it, Chase tolerated it pretty
well, and Mom did great too!
Jeremy's Mom, Sherry also stopped by and visited
today. The family ended the evening by watching videos.

All in all A Good Day!

The day started out as usual this morning. Jeremy stopped
in on his lunch break to make sure he took his meds.
Everything went well, But we asked Chase if it would be
ok if we gave him his injection, instead of the waiting
for the Home Health Nurse to come in the Evening to do
it.
He said we could, but I don't think he realized we
meant right then.
Well, it was not easy. Jessica tried to help by
holding his arm, but again it very frightening to him
to get a shot. Whew! But once it was given, he was
fine.
Chase received a package from Byron Reed, The sprint
car Driver #5, In the package was a Belt Buckle with a
sprint car on it, an autographed picture and a
personal note for Chase to come down to the pits this
season and visit Byron. Chase was so excited!
Jessica then took him visiting. They visited his Aunt
Bev, Cousins Amber and Aleesha, whom are both staying
all night tonight, and then they went on to Chase's
Great Grandma Trumpower's in Sandusky. Chase also
visited with his Great Aunt Kathy and his cousin
Nancyonna. His Great Uncle Joe called him while he was
there, and he and Chase said a prayer together over
the phone. Jessica said it was funny because she
didn't understand why Chase was standing there holding
the phone, not talking, with his eyes closed, so she
asked him what he was doing, and he answered I'm
praying!
Jessica will be making an appt tomorrow for Chase
to get a mohawk. He really wants one, and then he
wants to dye it blue!
Chase thinks that would be really cool!
He also received some really cool stuff from friends,
Rich and Karen Berg.
A special thank you goes out to Byron Reed and Rich
and Karen Berg for making a little boy happy today.
Great News: We also received very grateful news that Chase's bone
marrow test came back negative!

Chase's first day home

Chase had a roller-coaster of a day today. He fought
with his Mom about taking his medicine, but finally
did take it, thanks to a phone call from Uncle Jimmy.
And he did not want the Home Health nurse to give his
injection to him, but she had already done it before
he figured it out. He did go out and play, and rode
his 4 wheeler around outside since it was so nice
outside. He went to the grocery store with his Mom to
pick out whatever he wanted to drink, and some snacks.
He also helped Jeremy take down the Christmas tree.
He was a little nauseated after drinking some orange
pop, but better a little while later. Mawmaw Robin and
Randy came out to visit with him this evening. Mimi
(Jane) stopped out to see him and also talked to him
on the phone a few times today.
His port is healing nicely, but Jess had to warn him
to not wrestle around and play too rough, boys will be boys.....

Good news, Chase is home!

Wow, What an eventful day it has been! I received a
call early this morning from Jessica, Chase was not
tolerating his Chemo very well.
He was vomiting. I caught the shuttle from The Ronald
McDonald house and got to the hospital as fast as I
could. He kept telling me his tummy was hurting. They
did give him something for his nausea, and some
Benedryl, which made him sleepy. The Doctors said he
could go home as long as he was drinking lots of
fluids. We couldn't coax him into hardly drinking
anything. He said even pop tastes funny. To him,
everything tastes like metal. Well, we tried and
tried. He finally drank enough that they would allow
us to go home. We were all excited! It has been a very
long week for Chase, Jessica, and myself. So much to
learn, on how and when he receives his meds, what type
of signs to watch for, and to make sure he is feeling
ok.
As soon as we got out of the car at Chase's house, he
ran in and hugged his baby sister Jewelyonna. He is
happy to be home. We will be going back to the clinic
on Tuesday, for more blood tests and chemo.

Chase is doing great!

Hello Everyone,
Chase is doing well today. He had his first dose of Chemo Therapy which started around 3:30 today. Tentatively we have been told he will start radiation on Jan. 30th! This means he will have chemo and radiation at the same time. When radiation starts this means he will be going back and forth to Cleveland for 5 days out of the week for 6 weeks. Chase had lots of activities to keep him busy, he played a lot today with his aunt Jeanette. They made a beautiful pictures and colored. There was a nurse that brought him a Stuffed Fluffy Pink Pig which he loves. He also has a motorcycle he pushes with his feet, which is great for him to exercise. He also likes the umpa lumpa song off of Willi Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Chase played with other kids today as well. They also read "Jesus" books about stories out of the Bible and then put them on a shelf in his room so he can look at them. Aunt Jeanette said she had "tons of fun" with chase today. He was not feeling sick today and is having a Wonderful Day!

All is Well!

Well Hello Everyone, Chase has had a rough day with surgery, and had a bone marrow test today. He pulled through surgery fine. They inserted a port into his chest. He will start Chemo therapy on Tuesday and will have to stay overnight on Tuesday again and maybe will get to come home on wed. He came out of surgery for the port fine and a little later went down and played with the other kids in the playroom at the hospital. He will be sore on his chest where they inserted the port. He asked what the "thing" was in his chest? Rusty SR. Responded by jokingly saying it is a funnel. Chase got a kick out of the comment because he now thinks he is Tin Man off the Wizard of Oz. He was playing and then his stomach started to hurt so they gave him medicine. He can watch movies on his lap with a portable DVD player they have at the hospital. He can set it on his lap and watch movies which is really cool and keeps him occupied. Pictures are being updated on the picture page on the link on the right. We had a great day today at our church. We had services and then held a meeting to talk about the benefit we will be doing for Chase and the Ferkel family. Attending the meeting were: Reverend Dee Whaley and his wife Martha, Chase's (Mawmaw) Robin
Dwight and Randy Burroughs, Tom and Sherry Ferkel, Owen and Rusty Fritz and Mimi, along with Jeremy and Jessica Ferkel, Amanda Adams, Bob and Debbie, and
Sylvia Wott. There are many others that could not attend the
meeting but they are helping, if you would like to help please

"BENEFIT FOR CHASE BERGER"
We will be having a benefit for Chase and The Ferkel
family to help with expenses on Sunday February 26th
@ 12:30 pm.At the Clyde Eagles Hall.
We will be serving a Spaghetti Dinner for $5, as well
as having an auction. Numerous Country Music Bands
will be performing.
Anyone interested in purchasing the meal tickets

Please remember the Rummage Sale at the Methodist
Church (across from Millers Grocery Store) on Friday
Jan.20th and Saturday Jan.21st until noon. This
Rummage sale will benefit the families of Chase Berger
and Kole Keller. Anyone interested in donating
anything for the rummage sale, may contact Sylvia Wott

There is a Fund set up at The Old Fort Bank in Clyde
OH under the name of "THE CHASE BERGER FUND" Anyone
wishing to help Chase and his family may donate at any
Old Fort Bank.

Chase spent time with his Dad (Chad), yesterday, and
then went on to "Mimi's" (Jane's) house and stayed the
night. His Uncle Rusty Jr brought him a motorcycle toy
to play with, while he visited with Mimi's Brother
Chuck Buehning from Woodville.
We will be heading back to Cleveland Monday morning
for Chase's hospital stay. He will have a Bone Marrow
test, and will have a "port" placed so that he will be
able to receive chemo on Tuesday.
As long as he is tolerating the chemo, and eating and
drinking fluids, we may be back home Tuesday or
Wednesday. We will know more on Monday what the plan
of action is, as far as how often Chase will receive
Chemo per week. It is my understanding that he will
have to have Chemo treatments for a year or more.
Mawmaw, Dad, Chase, Jane, Jessica and Jeremy will all
be with Chase tomorrow.
Thank You to Reverend Dee and Martha Whaley and
Compassionate Ministries Church, for the boxes and
boxes of food that you brought out to Jessica and
Jeremy's house on Saturday. Chase didn't know what box
to tear into first!
Again Thank you all for your prayers, thoughts, and
help through all of this.
Also, a very special thank you to my best friend
Linda Woodruff for taking care of everything, from taking
care of cats and dogs, and being a great friend to the family
during this difficult time.

Not much to report today. Chase had a great day today he did nothing but be a kid. He played and laughed and did all the things kids should do. He will start back at it on Monday back in Cleveland. He will stay overnight on monday. And probably will start Chemo. on Tuesday.

Good News!

Wow! We had great news tonight! All of the tests that
Chase has endured so far has come back clear! We are
feeling more relieved.
We will be heading back to Cleveland early Monday
morning for Chase to have Bone Marrow test, and to
have a port inserted. He may have to recieve Chemo for
at least a year or more. Plans are for him to recieve
his first dose on Tues. We will also be talking with
the Doctors more on Monday for a clearer picture on a
plan of action.
Chase, Jessica, Aunt Jeanette, and Jane,
stayed at the Ronald McDonald House in Cleveland last
night. Chase finally got to "play" with all of the
toys and be a kid for the rest of the night.
Jeremy, (Chase's Step-Dad) and cousin Amanda, drove
in to meet us this morning at the Ronald McDonald
House and spent the day with us going from test after
test. It was a very hard day for Chase. He was
exhausted. But, was very excited when he learned we
were going home for the week-end. (He misses riding
his 4-wheeler, and his baby sister Jewelyonna). Chase
will be staying all night in the hospital Monday
night. A professional photographer came into the
pediatric Deptartment, and took free pictures of all
the patients and their families. We will post the
pictures when we get them. Again, I would like to
thank Reverend Dee Whaley for being there for my
family, along with our church, Compassionate
Ministries. I would also like thank Sylvia Wott for
all she is doing!

The Diagnosis

Hello all,
We finally have a diagnosis. It is called Aveolar
Rhabdomyosarcoma. We still are trying to find out what
stage it is in. Chase had a cat scan and it did show
that it has NOT spread into the lungs. Praise God! He
did go thru numerous other tests today. He also had an
MRI. In the morning (friday) he will be going for a Bone Scan.
Jessica, Myself (Jane), and Aunt Jeanette and Chase are
staying at the Ronald McDonald House. I would
personally love to thank Rev. Dee and Martha Whaley
and our AWESOME Church, Compassionate Ministries for
all they have done for my family.
Chase is doing fine. On the way to Cleveland this
morning, Chad Berger (Chase's Dad) showed Chase his
shaven head, to let him know that it is soooo cool to
be bald!

Information About Chase

Hello Everyone,
My phone has been ringing off the hook today with everyone asking about Chase. Thank you all for your prayers and concerns. We had Chase to his appointment at the Cleveland Clinic yesterday. He had numerous eye exams and a few other tests.
We still don't have the final reports from the Mayo Clinic as to what type of Cancer it is. We know it is a Sarcoma- a Cancer that invades the soft tissue. The pathologists report from Mansfield Hospital stated that they did find there are still cancer cells present in the eye area. On Thurs. January 5th, we will be heading back to Cleveland where Chase will have 3 CAT scans, an MRI, and more blood tests. On Friday we will go back for a bone test and other tests. The Doctors want to start Radiation treatments as soon as possible. He will have these treatments everyday, Monday thru Friday for (6) consecutive weeks. After that he will start Chemo Treatments. The Doctors advised us all that we should all have a flu shot, just to keep any bugs from Chase.
Sylvia Wott let me know that there will be a Rummage Sale at the First United Methodist Church on Friday and Saturday January 20th and 21st. The Church is located at 510 W. Maple St Clyde OH. Money from the sale will go to the families of little Kole Keller who is also a 4 year old that has brain cancer who also lives in Clyde and Chase Berger. If you would like to donate any items for the sale, you may drop them off at the church by Jan. 19th after 1pm, or take items to Sylvia Wotts home located at 4463 Cty Rd 223 Clyde OH. Any questions about the Rummage Sale will be handled by her. Her phone number is (419) 547-9772.
